Dakin Matthews

A playwright, director and theatre scholar, he has published books and articles on William Shakespeare and 17th century Spanish theater. *

As of 2016, has appeared in three films that were nominated for the Best Picture Oscar: True Grit (2010), Lincoln (2012) and Bridge of Spies (2015).

From February 2014 Dakin is taking on the iconic role of Mickey, the grizzled no-mercy trainer in ROCKY, THE MUSICAL at Broadway's Winter Gardens Theatre.

He was awarded the 2013 Los Angeles Stage Alliance Ovation Award for Featured Actor in a Play for "The Nether" at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

He was awarded the 2006 Los Angeles Stage Alliance Ovation Award for Featured Actor in a Play for "Water & Power" at the Mark Taper Forum Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

Wife is actress/director Anne Marie McNaughton, who directed Dakin's play "The Prince of L.A." at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre in September, 2005.

Won a Drama Desk special adaptation award created especially for him for his condensation of Shakespeare's "Henry IV" at Lincoln Center in 2004.

Was artistic director of the Antaeus Company, which he helped found in 1991 for classically-trained actors. He resigned in 2003. Later formed the Andak Stage Company.

Divided his time between Los Angeles and San Francisco until 1990, then settled in L.A.

From 1960-1963 was a student of Catholic Theology receiving a degree in that subject and studying at the Vatican and at Rome's Gregorian University with the intentions of one day being a priest.
