Dallas Seavey placed third in the 1,200-km Finnmarksløp in Norway in 2018, his first time competing in that event. He scratched in 2019, citing his dogs' health. He is registered to race in the 2020 Finnmarksløp.
As a result of an incident following the 2017 Iditarod, where Seavey was cleared of any wrong doing related to four dogs on his team testing positive to a banned substance, more stringent preventive measures were initiated to protect the canine athletes. The Iditarod Trail Committee implemented additional precautions along the trail to safeguard against tampering of dogs' food: all food drop bags are sealed with tamper proof zip ties, and 24/7 surveillance coverage at the Nome dog lot was added in 2018 as well as at three other checkpoints along the route.
In 2017, Dallas's record time was broken by his father, Mitch Seavey. Mitch Seavey's time was 8 days, 3 hours, 40 minutes, 13 seconds. Dallas came in second place.
