Daniel Arap Moi is a Kenyan politician who served as the second President of Kenya from 1978 to 2002. He was born on 2 September 1924 in Kuriengwo, Baringo County, Kenya. He was educated at the Kapsabet Government African School and Tambach Teachers Training College. Moi was a member of the Kenya African National Union (KANU) and was appointed Minister for Home Affairs in 1967. He became Vice President in 1978 and succeeded Jomo Kenyatta as President in 1978. He was re-elected in 1983, 1988, 1992 and 1997. Moi was a strong advocate of African unity and was instrumental in the formation of the East African Community. He was also a strong supporter of the Non-Aligned Movement. Moi retired from politics in 2002 and was succeeded by Mwai Kibaki. He is currently the Chairman of the Moi Foundation, a charitable organization that works to improve the lives of Kenyans. Moi is estimated to have a net worth of $2.5 billion.
