Productions at the Rose Theatre in Brampton, a remount of Catering Queen in 2009 at the Tarragon, and the title character in the play "I" for the 2011 Summerworks Festival at Theatre Passe Muraille. David has appeared in over fifty film and television projects, most recently Unrivalled. , Murdoch Mysteries, and Lost Girl. He has performed in such films as: Reaction Stick, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, Ham & Cheese, How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey, and Welcome to Mooseport starring Gene Hackman and Ray Romano. For the stage, David has written: Public Re(ve)lations a one person show he wrote, directed and performed (Studio 58); Hollywood North a weekly scripted improv series for the stage with his company Acme Theatrical Productions in Vancouver.
For the screen: the short film The Proposal (Half Bros Films) which he co-wrote and starred in; the unproduced short films The Code, Shoelaces and The Rehearsal which was short-listed for the NSI Drama Prize 2000. David is an alumnus of the National Screen Institute's Totally Television Program. With his writing-producing partner Todd Dulmage, David is developing their project from that program, the mini-series Home Front. David and Todd continue work together and individually on many small and large screen ideas that have been plaguing their sleep for the last decade. David is deeply involved with volunteer service-work in the arts.
An elected member of ACTRA's governing council since 2000, he is currently Vice President of Finance. He is a director of the board of the recently opened Creative Arts Saving and Credit Union that serves the local creative arts community.
At the Toronto Fringe, The Peace Line in 1997, the critically acclaimed Non Sequitur in 1999, and the smash hit Catering Queen in 2006. He performed in the hugely popular bittergirl in Toronto and off-Broadway in New York. Most recently he appeared in Taming of the Shrew for A. C. T.
David Macniven was born in Dunfermline, Scotland and raised in Kingston and Peterborough Ontario. He has resided in Toronto since 1995 and makes his home in East York with his daughter and son. David holds an Honours BA in History from Huron College at the University of Western Ontario, and a Theatre Arts Diploma from Studio 58, the professional theatre arts training program of Langara College, Vancouver. As an actor, David has performed in theatre, television and film from Victoria B. C. to N. Y. C. Selected theatre credits include The Oresteia (Equity Showcase), Bathhouse Suite, Benchmarks, and Burying Michael (Buddies In Bad Times) Measure for Measure (Oomph Group), and An American Without Tears (Summerworks).
