David Shahar was born in Jerusalem, Israel, on 17 June 1926. He is a writer and poet, and is best known for his works in Hebrew and Yiddish. He has written several books, including "The Book of the Dead" (1962), "The Book of the Living" (1966), and "The Book of the Future" (1970). He has also written several plays, including "The Last Supper" (1962) and "The Last Dance" (1966). Shahar is a recipient of the Israel Prize for Literature, and has been awarded the Prime Minister's Prize for Literature. He has also been awarded the Bialik Prize for Literature, and the Israel Prize for Lifetime Achievement. Shahar is married to his wife, Miriam, and they have two children. He currently resides in Jerusalem.
