Derek Watkins is a British composer, arranger, and conductor. He is best known for his work on the soundtracks of films such as The Italian Job, The Great Escape, and The Pink Panther. He has also composed music for television series such as The Avengers, The Professionals, and The Sweeney. Watkins began his career as a jazz musician, playing in various bands in the 1960s. He then moved into composing and arranging for film and television, and has since worked on over 200 films and television series. He has also composed music for commercials, and has written several books on music theory and arranging. Watkins has won several awards for his work, including a BAFTA for Best Original Music for The Italian Job in 1969, and an Ivor Novello Award for Best Film Score for The Great Escape in 1964. He was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Score for The Pink Panther in 1964. Watkins is currently living in London, England. He is married to his wife, and they have two children.
