Diana Wynne Jones was an English author of fantasy novels for children and adults. She wrote more than forty books, including the popular Chrestomanci series, the Dalemark quartet, and the novel Howl's Moving Castle, which was adapted into a 2004 film by Hayao Miyazaki. Born on August 16, 1934, in London, England, Diana Wynne Jones was the daughter of Marjorie and Richard Aneurin Jones. She was educated at St. Anne's College, Oxford, and worked as a teacher and lecturer before becoming a full-time writer in the 1970s. Diana Wynne Jones wrote her first book, Changeover, in 1970. She went on to write more than forty books, including the popular Chrestomanci series, the Dalemark quartet, and the novel Howl's Moving Castle, which was adapted into a 2004 film by Hayao Miyazaki. Her other works include The Homeward Bounders, The Dark Lord of Derkholm, and The Merlin Conspiracy. Diana Wynne Jones was awarded the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize in 1982 for her novel Eight Days of Luke, and the Carnegie Medal in 2001 for her novel The Ogre Downstairs. She was also the recipient of the World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement in 2007. Diana Wynne Jones died on March 26, 2011, in Bristol, England.
