Doug Lawrence is an American musician, composer, and arranger. He is best known for his work with the band Tower of Power, for which he has been a member since 1975. He has also worked with a variety of other artists, including Santana, Huey Lewis and the News, and the Doobie Brothers. Born on October 11, 1956, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Lawrence grew up in Oakland, California. He began playing the saxophone at the age of nine, and by the time he was in high school, he was playing professionally. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied music. In 1975, Lawrence joined Tower of Power, and he has been a member of the band ever since. He has also worked with a variety of other artists, including Santana, Huey Lewis and the News, and the Doobie Brothers. Lawrence has released several solo albums, including "Saxophone Colossus" (1995), "The Doug Lawrence Quartet" (1998), and "The Doug Lawrence Organ Trio" (2001). He has also composed music for television and film, including the theme song for the television show "The Drew Carey Show."
