Timeline
During his early New York acting career Doug started his own business called Handy Man Can and was soon entering New York’s posh residences including the restoration of Brook Astor’s famed Red Lacquer Library by the esteemed “High Society” firm Parish Hadley as well as maintaining Michael Bloomberg’s properties for designer Jamie Drake. His early business grew from top-rated Handy Man into construction and decorative painting finishes which introduced him to the design world. Recognition in design media and The New York Times exposed him to television production companies and landed him on the hit show Trading Spaces as an interior designer. Doug Wilson became a household name across America and was soon given three more shows, America’s Ugliest, Moving Up and special series Making It Home Greensburg, among others, on Cable Network TLC. In March 2018 he will be back on TLC with the much anticipated Return of Trading Spaces and in 2019 he was also on HGTV and TLC’s While You Were Out.
Design magazines for years have covered his high end and cleaver decorating style in Elle Decor, Style, Metropolitan Home, to name a few. Doug has also been named one of America’s Top 100 Designers by House Beautiful.
Wilson has created a design book, Doug’s Rooms: Transforming Your Space One Room At A Time, as an inspirational tool for personal creativity and high impact design. His philosophy is to look within oneself and find those things that make one tick, feel good, and want to wrap around oneself. Objects of inspiration are one of the elements that can kick start a personal space just for oneself and perhaps one's family. He encourages people to not simply decorate like neighbors but to make a space and home one's own.
Doug Wilson (born November 4, 1964) is a New York based, Nationally Acclaimed Interior Designer best known for his savvy design style and his “tongue and cheek humor” on the TLC iconic design show Trading Spaces.
