Eben Venter is a South African novelist and short story writer. He was born in Burgersdorp, South Africa, on 29 September 1954. He studied at the University of the Orange Free State and the University of the Witwatersrand. He has published several novels and short story collections, including Die Wonderwerker (The Miracle Worker, 1994), Die Swye van die Skemering (The Shadow of the Evening, 1996), and Die Reisiger (The Traveller, 1998). He has also written for television and film. Venter has won several awards for his writing, including the CNA Literary Award for Die Swye van die Skemering, the M-Net Literary Award for Die Reisiger, and the Hertzog Prize for Die Wonderwerker. He was also awarded the Order of Ikhamanga in Silver by the South African government in 2008. Venter currently lives in Johannesburg, South Africa. He is married and has two children.
