Eddie Barclay was a French music producer, composer, and songwriter. He was born in Paris, France, on January 26, 1921. He was the founder of Barclay Records, one of the most successful French record labels of the 1950s and 1960s. Barclay began his career as a jazz pianist, playing in various clubs in Paris. He then moved into music production, working with some of the biggest names in French music, including Charles Aznavour, Jacques Brel, and Edith Piaf. He also produced soundtracks for films, including Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless. Barclay was a prolific composer, writing over 500 songs, many of which were hits in France. He was also a successful businessman, founding Barclay Records in 1954. The label was responsible for launching the careers of many French artists, including Johnny Hallyday and Serge Gainsbourg. Barclay was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1975 for his contributions to French music. He died in Paris on May 13, 2005.
