Edward C. Waller III was an American businessman and philanthropist. He was the chairman and CEO of the Waller Group, a Chicago-based investment firm. He was also the chairman of the board of trustees of the University of Chicago and a trustee of the Art Institute of Chicago. Waller was born in Chicago, Illinois, on January 24, 1926. He attended the University of Chicago, where he earned a bachelor's degree in economics in 1947. He then attended Harvard Business School, where he earned an MBA in 1949. Waller began his career as an investment banker at the Waller Group in 1950. He was named chairman and CEO of the firm in 1965. Under his leadership, the Waller Group became one of the most successful investment firms in the country. Waller was also a major philanthropist. He was a trustee of the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Chicago, and he was a major donor to both institutions. He also supported numerous other charities and causes, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Public Library, and the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. Waller passed away on April 8, 2021, at the age of 95. He was survived by his wife, two sons, and four grandchildren.
