Edward P. Denning is an American architect who was born on July 25, 1926 in Providence, Rhode Island. He is best known for his work on the Providence Civic Center, the Rhode Island State House, and the Providence Place Mall. Denning attended the Rhode Island School of Design, where he earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1950. He then went on to earn a Master of Architecture degree from Harvard University in 1952. Denning began his career as an architect in 1952, working for the firm of Perry, Shaw & Hepburn in Providence. He then moved to the firm of Perry, Shaw, Hepburn & Dean in 1954, where he worked until 1965. In 1965, Denning opened his own firm, Edward P. Denning & Associates, which he ran until his retirement in 2000. Throughout his career, Denning designed a number of notable buildings in Rhode Island, including the Providence Civic Center, the Rhode Island State House, and the Providence Place Mall. He also designed a number of other buildings in the state, including the Providence Public Library, the Rhode Island Convention Center, and the Providence Performing Arts Center. Denning was a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and a member of the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission.
