Els van den Horn is a Dutch diver who was born on 19 May, 1927 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. He is best known for his achievements in the sport of diving, having won multiple medals in the Olympics and World Championships. He is also a member of the International Swimming Hall of Fame. Van den Horn began his diving career in the 1950s, competing in the European Championships and the Olympics. He won a bronze medal in the 3m springboard event at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia. He also won a silver medal in the 10m platform event at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, Italy. Van den Horn continued to compete in the Olympics and World Championships throughout the 1960s and 1970s. He won a total of four medals in the Olympics and World Championships, including a gold medal in the 10m platform event at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany. Van den Horn retired from competitive diving in the late 1970s. He is currently 96 years old and is still active in the sport, coaching and mentoring young divers. He is also a member of the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
