Emma Sulter is a French athlete who was born on 14 January, 1952 in Fort-de-France, Martinique. She is best known for her success in the 400m hurdles, winning the gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. She also won a bronze medal in the 400m at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. Sulter began her career in athletics in the late 1970s, competing in the 400m hurdles and the 400m. She won her first major international medal in 1981, taking the bronze medal in the 400m hurdles at the European Athletics Championships in Athens. She went on to win the gold medal in the 400m hurdles at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, setting a new Olympic record in the process. In 1988, Sulter won the bronze medal in the 400m at the Summer Olympics in Seoul. She also won the gold medal in the 400m hurdles at the 1989 World Championships in Athletics in Tokyo. Sulter retired from athletics in 1990 and has since become a coach and mentor to young athletes. She is currently the president of the French Athletics Federation.
