Esa Timonen is a Finnish politician who served as the Prime Minister of Finland from 1982 to 1987. He was born on 28 May 1925 in the city of Kuopio, Finland. Timonen studied law at the University of Helsinki and graduated in 1950. He then worked as a lawyer in Kuopio until he was elected to the Parliament of Finland in 1958. He served as a member of the Parliament for the Social Democratic Party of Finland until 1987. In 1982, Timonen was appointed Prime Minister of Finland. During his tenure, he focused on improving the economy and reducing unemployment. He also worked to improve Finland's relations with the Soviet Union. He resigned in 1987 and was succeeded by Harri Holkeri. Timonen has received numerous awards and honors for his service to Finland, including the Order of the White Rose of Finland and the Order of the Lion of Finland.
