Frances Kroll Ring is an American writer and literary editor. She is best known for her memoir, Against the Current: As I Remember F. Scott Fitzgerald, which was published in 1985. Ring was born in the Bronx, New York City, on May 17, 1916. She attended Hunter College and graduated in 1937. She then worked as a secretary for F. Scott Fitzgerald from 1937 to 1940. During this time, she became close friends with Fitzgerald and his wife, Zelda. Ring later worked as a literary editor for Random House and Viking Press. She also wrote several books, including a novel, The House on the Lagoon (1995), and a memoir, Against the Current: As I Remember F. Scott Fitzgerald (1985). Ring has been married twice. Her first marriage was to Robert Kroll, with whom she had two children. Her second marriage was to Robert Ring, with whom she had one child.
