Françoise Dupuy is a French dancer and choreographer who has been active in the dance world since the 1940s. She is best known for her work with the Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris, where she was a principal dancer from 1947 to 1965. She has also choreographed works for the Paris Opera Ballet, the Ballet du Rhin, and the Ballet de l'Opéra de Monte-Carlo. Dupuy was born in Lyon, France, on 6 February 1925. She began her dance training at the age of seven, studying with the renowned teacher and choreographer, Jean Babilée. She went on to study at the Paris Opera Ballet School, where she was a student of the legendary choreographer, Serge Lifar. In 1947, Dupuy joined the Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris as a principal dancer. She performed in a variety of ballets, including works by Lifar, George Balanchine, and Maurice Béjart. She also created roles in ballets by Lifar, including his version of "The Sleeping Beauty" and "The Nutcracker". In 1965, Dupuy retired from the stage and began to focus on choreography. She created works for the Paris Opera Ballet, the Ballet du Rhin, and the Ballet de l'Opéra de Monte-Carlo. She also taught at the Paris Opera Ballet School and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. Dupuy has been honored with numerous awards, including the Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur and the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. She is currently 97 years old.
