He attended the University of Montana and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. After college, he worked in the transportation industry for several years before joining the United States Air Force in 1954. He served in the Air Force for four years before returning to the transportation industry. Askin has held various positions in the transportation industry, including as a manager of air transportation for the United States Air Force, a manager of air transportation for the United States Department of Transportation, and a manager of rail transportation for the United States Department of Transportation. He has also served as a consultant for the United States Department of Transportation and the United States Department of Defense. Askin has been recognized for his work in the transportation industry, receiving the Air Force Commendation Medal in 1965 and the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal in 1971. He has also been inducted into the Air Force Hall of Fame. Askin is currently retired and lives in Montana. His estimated net worth is unknown.
