Frank Loesser was an American composer, lyricist, and playwright. He is best known for writing the lyrics and music for the Broadway musicals Guys and Dolls and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, as well as songs such as "Heart and Soul", "On a Slow Boat to China", and "Baby, It's Cold Outside". He won a Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his musical The Most Happy Fella. Loesser was born in New York City to a Jewish family. He attended Townsend Harris High School and then the City College of New York, where he studied music and composition. He began his career as a songwriter for Tin Pan Alley publishers, and wrote the music and lyrics for the Broadway musicals Guys and Dolls and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. He also wrote the lyrics for the popular songs "Heart and Soul", "On a Slow Boat to China", and "Baby, It's Cold Outside". Loesser won a Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his musical The Most Happy Fella, and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Baby, It's Cold Outside". He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970. Loesser died in 1969 at the age of 59. His estate is estimated to be worth around $20 million.
