George Loewenstein is an American educator and economist. He is currently the Herbert A. Simon University Professor of Economics and Psychology at Carnegie Mellon University. He is also the co-director of the Center for Behavioral Decision Research. Loewenstein was born on August 9, 1955 in the United States. He received his B.A. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1977 and his Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University in 1982. Loewenstein is best known for his research on the psychology of decision-making, particularly in the areas of intertemporal choice, risk, and self-control. He has also done research on the economics of emotions, the psychology of curiosity, and the psychology of procrastination. Loewenstein has received numerous awards for his research, including the Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award from the American Psychological Association, the William James Fellow Award from the Association for Psychological Science, and the Distinguished Scientific Award for an Early Career Contribution to Psychology from the American Psychological Foundation.
