Giles Brindley was an English physiologist and pharmacologist who made major contributions to the understanding of the mechanisms of drug action. He was born on 30 April 1926 in London, England. Giles Brindley was educated at the University of Cambridge, where he received his B.A. in 1948 and his Ph.D. in 1952. He then went on to work at the National Institute for Medical Research in London, where he worked on the pharmacology of the autonomic nervous system. In 1965, he moved to the University of Birmingham, where he was appointed Professor of Pharmacology. He was also a visiting professor at the University of California, San Francisco, and the University of Toronto. Giles Brindley was a Fellow of the Royal Society and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He was awarded the Lasker Award in 1985 for his work on the pharmacology of the autonomic nervous system. Giles Brindley died on 28 August, 2007, at the age of 81. Giles Brindley had no known dating/affairs. He was married to his wife, Mary, for over 50 years. They had two children together.
