Covatta was born in Taranto, Italy, on 11 June 1956. He studied at the University of Rome, where he graduated in philosophy. He began his career as a stand-up comedian in the early 1980s. He has since appeared in numerous films and television series, as well as hosting several television shows. Covatta is married to actress and television presenter Simona Ventura. They have two children. He is an avid collector of vintage cars and motorcycles. He is also a passionate supporter of the Italian football team AS Roma.
