Grigoriy Aleksandrov was a Soviet film director, actor, and screenwriter. He was born on 23 January, 1903 in Yekaterinburg, Russia. He is best known for his collaborations with his longtime friend and colleague, Sergei Eisenstein.
Aleksandrov began his career as an actor in the 1920s, appearing in several silent films. He then moved into directing, and his first film was the 1926 comedy The Circus. He went on to direct a number of other films, including the musicals Jolly Fellows (1934) and Volga-Volga (1938).
In the 1940s, Aleksandrov began working with Eisenstein on a number of projects, including the films Ivan the Terrible (1944) and Alexander Nevsky (1944). He also wrote the screenplay for the film The Cranes Are Flying (1957).
Aleksandrov was awarded the Order of Lenin in 1944 and the Order of the Red Banner of Labour in 1957. He died on 28 December, 1983 in Moscow, Russia.
