Harold Adamson was an American songwriter and composer who wrote the lyrics for many popular songs in the 1930s and 1940s. He was born in Greenville, New Jersey, and attended the University of Pennsylvania. He began his career as a songwriter in the early 1930s, writing for the likes of Bing Crosby, Rudy Vallee, and the Mills Brothers. He wrote the lyrics for such hits as "I'm in the Mood for Love," "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter," and "I'm an Old Cowhand from the Rio Grande." Adamson also wrote the music for several films, including The Big Broadcast of 1938, The Big Store, and The Big Sleep. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song for "I'm in the Mood for Love" in 1935. Adamson died in Los Angeles, California, on April 22, 1980. He was 73 years old.
