Hatta Rajasa is an Indonesian politician who served as the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs from 2009 to 2014. He was the running mate of Joko Widodo in the 2014 presidential election. Rajasa was born on 18 December 1953 in Palembang, South Sumatra. He graduated from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Indonesia in 1977. He then obtained a master's degree in economics from the University of California, Berkeley in 1982. Rajasa began his political career in the Golkar party in the early 1990s. He was elected to the People's Representative Council in 1999 and served as the chairman of the Golkar faction in the council from 2004 to 2009. In 2009, Rajasa was appointed as the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs in the cabinet of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. He held the position until 2014. In 2014, Rajasa was chosen as the running mate of Joko Widodo in the presidential election. However, they were defeated by the incumbent president, Yudhoyono. Rajasa is married to Siti Hediati Hariyadi, the daughter of former president B. J. Habibie. They have three children.
