Henrique Alegria was a Brazilian producer, writer, and production manager. He was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 21 January 1880. He was a pioneer in the Brazilian film industry, producing and writing some of the earliest films in the country. He was also a key figure in the development of the Brazilian film industry, helping to establish the first film studios in the country. Alegria began his career in the film industry in the early 1900s, working as a production manager for the film company Cinédia. He then went on to produce and write several films for the company, including the first Brazilian feature film, O Crime do Padre Amaro (1912). He also wrote and produced several other films, including O Homem do Pau-Brasil (1914) and O Canto da Saudade (1915). In the 1920s, Alegria moved to the United States, where he worked as a production manager for the Fox Film Corporation. He returned to Brazil in the 1930s, and continued to work in the film industry, producing and writing several films. He also wrote and directed the film O Canto da Saudade (1935). Henrique Alegria died in Rio de Janeiro in 1945. He was an important figure in the development of the Brazilian film industry, and his work helped to establish the country as a major player in the international film industry.
