Hilda Gadea was born in Lima, Peru, on 21 March 1925. She was the daughter of a Peruvian lawyer and a Chilean mother. She studied economics at the National University of San Marcos in Lima, graduating in 1949. Gadea was a prominent figure in the Cuban Revolution, and was a close friend of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara. She was a member of the 26th of July Movement, and was a key figure in the Cuban Revolution. She was also a member of the Cuban Communist Party. Gadea was a professor of economics at the University of Havana, and was a member of the Cuban Academy of Sciences. She was also a member of the Cuban Council of State. Gadea was a prolific writer, and wrote several books on economics, including "The Cuban Economy: A Marxist Analysis" (1962) and "The Cuban Revolution: A Marxist Analysis" (1966). Gadea died on 28 April, 2016 in Havana, Cuba, at the age of 91.
