A graduate in political science from the Institute of Oriental Science, Russia, Tripathi plunged into politics by joining the leftist movement in 1974. He is a clever player of the politics who practically enjoyed his existence in as many political parties as he can. His modest beginning in politics was from the Communist Party led by Keshar Jung Rayamajhi. He was with the Nepal Sadbhavana Party (Anandidevi), before he and Mahanta Thakur of the Nepali Congress broke away to form the Terai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) in the wake of the Madhes Andolan. He represented Nepal Sadbhavana Party (Anandidevi) in the dissolved House of Representatives.

Hridayesh Tripathi (Nepali: हृदयेश त्रिपाठी ; June 18, 1959) is a Nepalese politician, belonging to the Nepal Communist Party . He is the current Minister of Federal Affairs and General Administration . He also served as Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs in Baburam Bhattarai cabinet .

Tripathi was born in 1959 to Hari Shankar and Kunti Devi Tripathi. He graduated from the Institute of Oriental Science, Russia with a degree in political science. Tripathi joined the leftist movement of 1974, and since that year became a politician. He first joined Communist Party of Nepal, which at that time was led by Keshar Jung Rayamajhi. After some time with Nepal Sadbhavana Party (Anandidevi), he along with Mahantha Thakur, formed Tarai-Madhesh Loktantrik Party in the wake of Madhes Andolan. Tripathi represented Nepal Sadbhavana Party (Anandidevi) during the dissolution of the Nepali House of Representatives. In the 2008 Constituent Assembly election he was elected from the Nawalparasi-6 constituency, winning 10,029 votes defeating his closest rival NC's Debkaran Kalawar. Kalawar received 9,856 votes while another opponent UCPN-Maoist's Rahit Prasad Kewat received 5,749 votes.
