Ian Davies is a retired Australian basketball player who was born on 29 January, 1956 in Longford, Australia. He is best known for his time with the Melbourne Tigers in the National Basketball League (NBL). Davies began his basketball career in the NBL in 1979 with the Melbourne Tigers. He played for the Tigers for six seasons, and was a part of the team's championship-winning season in 1984. He was also a part of the Tigers' 1985 Grand Final team. Davies was a two-time NBL All-Star, and was named to the NBL All-Star Five in 1984. He was also named the NBL's Most Valuable Player in 1984. Davies retired from the NBL in 1985, and went on to become a successful coach. He coached the Melbourne Tigers from 1988 to 1991, and was the head coach of the Australian men's national team from 1992 to 1996. Davies is currently the head coach of the Melbourne United in the NBL. He has been with the team since 2013, and has led them to two NBL championships in 2014 and 2018.
