Niga began his rowing career in the 1940s, competing in the Romanian National Championships. He won the national title in the men's coxless fours event in 1947 and 1948. In 1948, Niga was part of the Romanian team that competed in the Summer Olympics in London. He won a gold medal in the men's coxless fours event, alongside teammates Gheorghe Popescu, Gheorghe Ionescu, and Constantin Popescu. Niga continued to compete in rowing events throughout the 1950s and 1960s, winning several national titles. He retired from competitive rowing in the 1970s. Niga is now 98 years old.
