Ranguma attended the University of Nairobi, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Political Science. He then went on to pursue a Master of Arts degree in International Relations from the same university. Ranguma began his political career in 2002 when he was elected as a Member of Parliament for Kisumu East Constituency. He served in this position until 2013 when he was elected as the Governor of Kisumu County. Ranguma is married to Mary Ranguma and they have four children.
