He was best known for producing the films "The 400 Blows" (1959), "Jules and Jim" (1962), and "The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie" (1972). Bar began his career in the film industry in the late 1940s, working as an assistant director on several films. He then moved on to producing, and in 1959 he produced his first feature film, "The 400 Blows". The film was a critical and commercial success, and it established Bar as a major figure in French cinema. Bar went on to produce several other successful films, including "Jules and Jim" (1962), "The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie" (1972), and "The Last Metro" (1980). He also directed two films, "The Little Thief" (1961) and "The Great Adventure" (1964). Bar was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1975 for his contributions to French cinema.
