He was born in Paris, France, on 15 September 1906. He began his career as an assistant director in the early 1930s, working with directors such as Jean Renoir and Marcel Carné. He made his directorial debut in 1937 with the film Goupi Mains Rouges. In the 1940s, Becker made several films, including Antoine et Antoinette (1947) and Rendez-vous de juillet (1949). He also wrote the screenplay for the classic French film Les Enfants du Paradis (1945). In the 1950s, Becker directed several of his most acclaimed films, including Casque d'Or (1952), Touchez pas au grisbi (1954), and Le Trou (1960). He also wrote the screenplay for the classic French film Les Quatre Cents Coups (1959). Jacques Becker died on 13 August 1960 in Paris, France. He was 53 years old.
