Jacques de Lacretelle was a French novelist and essayist. He was born on 14 July 1888 in Cormatin, Saône-et-Loire, France. He was educated at the Lycée Louis-le-Grand in Paris and the École Normale Supérieure. He was a professor of literature at the University of Paris from 1921 to 1925. Lacretelle was a prolific writer, publishing more than 30 novels, plays, and essays. His works include the novels Les Hommes de bonne volonté (1927–1933), La Mort du roi (1930), and La Fin des notables (1934). He was awarded the Prix Goncourt in 1925 for his novel Les Hommes de bonne volonté. Lacretelle died on 28 April 1962 in Paris, France. He was 73 years old.
