Jacques Douai was a French composer and conductor who was active in the film industry from the 1940s to the 1980s. He composed the music for over 100 films, including the classic French films Les Enfants du Paradis (1945) and La Grande Illusion (1937). He also composed the music for the popular French television series Les Cinq Dernières Minutes (1958-1962). Douai was born in Douai, Nord, France on 11 December 1920. He studied music at the Conservatoire de Paris and the École Normale de Musique. He began his career as a conductor for the Orchestre National de la Radiodiffusion Française in 1945. Douai composed the music for over 100 films, including Les Enfants du Paradis (1945), La Grande Illusion (1937), La Ronde (1950), Les Diaboliques (1955), and La Chambre des Dames (1956). He also composed the music for the popular French television series Les Cinq Dernières Minutes (1958-1962). Douai was awarded the Legion of Honor in 1975. He died on 8 April 1988 in Paris, France.
