James Bradford (weightlifter) is an American weightlifter who competed in the 1948 Summer Olympics in London. He was born on 1 November, 1928 in Washington, D.C. At the 1948 Olympics, Bradford won the silver medal in the featherweight class. He was the first African-American to win an Olympic medal in weightlifting. Bradford was a member of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. After his military service, he worked as a physical education teacher in the Washington, D.C. area. Bradford is a member of the USA Weightlifting Hall of Fame and the National Weightlifting Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the USA Weightlifting Hall of Fame in 2004.
