James Prideaux is an American playwright and screenwriter. He was born on August 29, 1927 in New York City. He is best known for his plays, including "The Lion in Winter" and "The Great White Hope". He attended the University of Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He then went on to study at the Yale School of Drama, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in playwriting. He began his career as a playwright in the 1950s, writing plays for the New York stage. His first play, "The Lion in Winter", was produced in 1958 and was a critical success. He went on to write several other plays, including "The Great White Hope" and "The Night of the Iguana". In addition to his work as a playwright, Prideaux also wrote for television and film.
