Jan Szpunar is a retired Polish biathlete who competed in the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria. He was born on 30 October 1952 in Kościelisko, Poland. Szpunar began his career in biathlon in the early 1970s and quickly became one of the top biathletes in the world. He won the bronze medal in the 20 km individual event at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria. He also won the silver medal in the 4x7.5 km relay at the same Olympics. Szpunar also won several medals at the Biathlon World Championships, including a gold medal in the 20 km individual event in 1978. He also won a bronze medal in the 4x7.5 km relay in 1979. Szpunar retired from biathlon in the early 1980s and is now a coach and a biathlon commentator. He is currently 65 years old.
