Janet Hemingway is a British scientist and professor of molecular parasitology at the University of Liverpool. She is best known for her work on the development of drugs to treat malaria and other parasitic diseases. Hemingway was born in West Yorkshire, England, and attended the University of Leeds, where she earned a BSc in biochemistry in 1979. She then went on to earn a PhD in biochemistry from the University of London in 1983. Hemingway began her career as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford in 1983. She then moved to the University of Liverpool in 1988, where she was appointed professor of molecular parasitology in 1998. Hemingway has made significant contributions to the field of malaria research, including the development of drugs to treat the disease. She has also conducted research on other parasitic diseases, such as schistosomiasis and leishmaniasis. Hemingway has received numerous awards and honors for her work, including the Royal Society of Chemistry's Interdisciplinary Prize in 2002, the Royal Society's Rosalind Franklin Award in 2004, and the Royal Society's Kohn Award in 2006. She was also made a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2008. Hemingway is married to fellow scientist and professor of molecular parasitology, David Lalloo. They have two children.
