Jean-Marie Colombani is a French journalist and writer. He was born on 7 July 1948 in Dakar, Senegal. He is the former editor-in-chief of the French newspaper Le Monde. He is also the author of several books, including La République des Illusions (The Republic of Illusions) and La France des Illusions (The France of Illusions). Colombani studied at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris and graduated with a degree in philosophy. He began his career as a journalist in 1972, working for the French newspaper Libération. In 1981, he joined Le Monde, where he worked as a reporter and editor. In 1995, he was appointed editor-in-chief of the newspaper, a position he held until 2004. Colombani has written several books, including La République des Illusions (The Republic of Illusions) and La France des Illusions (The France of Illusions). He is also the author of several essays, including La Démocratie à l'épreuve (Democracy on Trial) and La Démocratie en danger (Democracy in Danger).
