As the campaign's deputy press secretary, Helfgot performed a number of communications functions, including serving as advance and on-site media coordinator for the campaign's high-profile June 2006 fundraising event with former U. S. President Bill Clinton. During his previous tenure in the music industry, Helfgot held an array of positions, including publicist for MCA Concerts and L. A. 's premiere concert venue, the Universal Amphitheatre; tour publicist for the Reggae Sunsplash tour and for magician David Copperfield; manager of media relations and marketing at independent label Quality Records and the Warlock Records Group; and associate editor of Music Connection magazine.

2005

In 2005, he relocated to Phoenix and entered the realm of public affairs and politics, providing communications services for political and public affairs strategist Mario E Diaz and for the Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center in Scottsdale, Ariz. He then joined Democrat Jim Pederson's statewide campaign for the U. S. Senate, working out of the campaign's Phoenix headquarters.

From 2002-2005, Helfgot served as a Los Angeles-based writer and consultant for a range of clients, including Red Bull North America; StreamCast Networks, Inc. , makers of the popular Morpheus peer-to-peer software application; and Elixir Records recording artist Fabrice Morvan, formerly of Milli Vanilli.
