Jerzy Antczak is a Polish film director, actor, and writer. He is best known for his work on films such as The Hourglass Sanatorium (1973), The Promised Land (1975), and The Deluge (1974). He has also directed several television series, including The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1984) and The Adventures of Pinocchio (1985). Antczak was born in Włodzimierz Wołyński, Poland (now Volodymyr-Volynskyi, Ukraine). He studied at the National Film School in Łódź, Poland, and graduated in 1955. He began his career as an assistant director in the 1950s, and his first feature film, The Hourglass Sanatorium, was released in 1973. Antczak has won numerous awards for his work, including the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival for The Promised Land in 1975, and the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival for The Deluge in 1974. He was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film for The Promised Land in 1976. In addition to his film work, Antczak has also written several books, including The Art of Film Directing (1984) and The Art of Acting (1985). He is currently retired and living in Warsaw, Poland.
