Jill Balcon was an English actress who was born into a prominent theatrical family. She was the daughter of Sir Michael Balcon, a film producer and the head of Ealing Studios, and the granddaughter of Sir Edgar Balcon, a theatrical impresario. She began her career as a stage actress in the 1940s, appearing in productions of Shakespeare and other classic plays. She made her film debut in 1947 in the Ealing Studios production of The Loves of Joanna Godden. Throughout her career, Balcon appeared in a number of films, including The Cruel Sea (1953), The Man Who Never Was (1956), and The Entertainer (1960). She also appeared in television series such as The Avengers and The Saint. Balcon was married to the actor Michael Craig from 1956 until his death in 1994. She had two children with Craig, the actor Daniel Craig and the film producer Jenny Craig. Balcon died on 28 April 2009 at the age of 84.
