John Bunting (sculptor) is a British sculptor who has been creating sculptures since the 1950s. He is best known for his large-scale public sculptures, which often feature abstract forms and are often made from bronze or stainless steel. He has exhibited his work in galleries and museums around the world, including the Tate Gallery in London, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. John Bunting was born in London in 1927. He studied at the Royal College of Art in London, and later at the Slade School of Fine Art. He began his career as a sculptor in the 1950s, and his first major commission was for a sculpture for the Festival of Britain in 1951. Since then, he has created many public sculptures, including the ‘Fountain of Life’ in London’s Trafalgar Square, and the ‘Fountain of the Four Seasons’ in the grounds of the Royal Festival Hall. John Bunting has been awarded numerous awards and honours for his work, including the Order of the British Empire in 1977, and the Royal Academy of Arts’s Gold Medal in 1988.
