John Herbert is a Canadian playwright and director. He is best known for his play Fortune and Men's Eyes, which was first performed in 1967 and has since been adapted into a film and a musical. Born in Toronto, Ontario, Herbert began his career as an actor in the 1950s. He later moved into directing and writing, and his first play, Fortune and Men's Eyes, was produced in 1967. The play was a success and was adapted into a film in 1971. Herbert also wrote the musical version of the play, which premiered in 1971. Herbert has written several other plays, including The Ernie Game (1968), The Farm Show (1970), and The National Anthem (1972). He has also directed several plays, including The Farm Show and The National Anthem. Herbert has received numerous awards for his work, including the Governor General's Award for Drama in 1971 and the Order of Canada in 1975.
