John James Sweeney is a 96-year-old American politician who served as a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1967 to 1972. He was born on June 1, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Sweeney attended St. Joseph's Preparatory School and graduated from La Salle University in 1950. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania Law School, graduating in 1953. Sweeney was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1967 to 1972. He was a member of the Democratic Party and served as the Majority Leader of the House from 1969 to 1972. Sweeney was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1968 and 1972. He was also a delegate to the Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention in 1967 and 1971. Sweeney was a member of the Philadelphia City Council from 1972 to 1980. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Senate from 1981 to 1984. Sweeney is currently a partner in the law firm of Sweeney, Mason, Wilson & Bosomworth. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Philadelphia Zoo.
