John Lapli is a Solomon Islander politician who served as the Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands from 1997 to 2001. He was born on 25 June 1955 in the Solomon Islands. Lapli was educated at the University of the South Pacific in Fiji, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Political Science. He then went on to pursue a Master of Arts degree in International Relations at the University of Hawaii. Lapli began his political career in the late 1980s, when he was elected to the National Parliament of the Solomon Islands. He served as the Minister of Finance from 1989 to 1993, and then as the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1993 to 1997. In 1997, Lapli was elected as the Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands. During his tenure, he focused on improving the country's infrastructure and economic development. He also worked to improve the country's relations with its neighbors, and to promote peace and stability in the region. Lapli left office in 2001, and since then has been involved in various business and political activities. He is currently the Chairman of the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Lapli is married to his wife, Mary, and they have two children. He is 65 years old.
