John Rothwell is a British musician and composer. He was born in London, England, on 24 December 1954. He is best known for his work with the band The Smiths, which he joined in 1982. Rothwell began his musical career in the late 1970s, playing in various bands in the Manchester area. He joined The Smiths in 1982, replacing original guitarist Johnny Marr. He played on the band's first two albums, The Smiths and Meat Is Murder, and toured extensively with the band. Rothwell left The Smiths in 1987 and went on to form the band The Stranglers. He has also released several solo albums, including The World Is Full of Things (1989), The Way of the World (1991), and The Last of the Great Romantics (1995). Rothwell is married to singer and songwriter Kirsty MacColl, with whom he has two children. As of 2021, John Rothwell's net worth is estimated to be around $2 million.
