John Thomas Copenhaver Jr. was an American lawyer and politician who served as a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates from 1952 to 1956. He was born in Charleston, West Virginia, on September 29, 1925, to John Thomas Copenhaver Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (née Smith) Copenhaver. He attended Charleston High School and graduated from West Virginia University in 1947 with a degree in law. Copenhaver was admitted to the West Virginia Bar in 1948 and began practicing law in Charleston. He was elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates in 1952 and served until 1956. He was a member of the Democratic Party and served as the House Majority Leader from 1954 to 1956. Copenhaver was a member of the West Virginia State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Charleston Bar Association, and the West Virginia Bar Association. He was also a member of the West Virginia Bar Foundation, the West Virginia Bar Foundation Board of Directors, and the West Virginia Bar Foundation Board of Trustees. Copenhaver was married to Mary Elizabeth (née Smith) Copenhaver and had two children. He passed away on April 8, 2021, at the age of 95.
